Entrepreneur Series #8: The 2 Interview Questions That Matter
This is part 8 of a series of 18 articles I wrote for Entrepreneur.com.
I’ve interviewed over 2,000 candidates. I’ve tried behavioral questions, brainteasers, case studies — you name it. I’ve boiled it all down to two questions:
“What have you been working on?” and “What do you want to do?”
That’s it. The first reveals what someone genuinely prioritizes when they have to choose what to talk about. The second reveals where they want to go. Compare the two answers and the gap — or alignment — tells you almost everything you need to know.
The secret isn’t in the questions. It’s in the listening. Most interviewers talk too much. Shut up, let them tell you their story, and then show them how your company fits into the narrative they’re already building for themselves.
