Entrepreneur Series #12: The One Overlooked Coaching Skill

Want to know the fastest way to stunt someone’s growth? Give them the answer every time they ask.

The overlooked skill is guided self-discovery. Instead of telling people what they did wrong, ask: “How do you think that went?” Then: “What would you do differently?” And the one that really opens eyes: “How have you changed over time?”

These aren’t trick questions. They’re mirrors. When someone articulates their own growth, they internalize it in a way that no amount of feedback can replicate. They start recognizing patterns across situations, building real expertise instead of just following your playbook.

But it only works if they trust you. Share your own stumbles. Let them see that reflection isn’t an interrogation — it’s how everyone gets better.
